Privacy policy
Cubbyful helps you cook from what you have: a cubby (your pantry, fridge and freezer), recipes, a weekly planner and a shopping list. This policy says what we collect, why, who else sees it, and how to delete it. The short version: we keep what the app needs to work, we never sell your data, and you can delete your account from inside the app.
What we collect
| What | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Name, email and password (stored scrambled) | When you join | Your account, signing in, password reset codes |
| Phone, city, ZIP, household size, how you heard about us, diet choices | Only if you fill them in | Fitting recipes and portions to you; knowing which areas we serve |
| Your plan and, for paid plans, the store's purchase record and renewal date | When you choose a plan | Turning on what you paid for |
| Your cubby, best-by dates, saved recipes, planner, shopping list, cooking history, notes and settings | As you use the app | The app itself. Without an account this stays on your phone; with one it is saved to your account so it syncs |
| Recipe reviews and Members' Picks entries | When you post them | Shown to other members with your first name |
| Feedback you send | When you send it | Fixing bugs and improving recipes. It includes the page you were on, the app version and your device type |
| Anonymous usage data: which catalog foods are added, used or thrown away, with the aisle, place, count and days kept | Only if you say yes to "Share anonymous data" | Making the app better. It is tied to a random install id, never to your name, email or account, and holds no typed text. Turn it off or delete it in My Kitchen |
| Advertising data on the free plan (see Ads) | While ads show | Showing ads that pay for the free plan |
The camera is used only when you scan a barcode or take a photo, and the picture stays on your phone. Barcode numbers you scan are looked up in public product databases (Open Food Facts, USDA FoodData Central and similar), with no personal details attached. Notifications for timers and best-by dates are set on your phone; we don't send them from a server.
Ads
The free Taster plan shows ads from Google AdMob. Google may collect your device's advertising ID, approximate location from your IP address and how you interact with ads, to show and measure ads. On iPhone you are asked first whether apps may track you; if you say no, ads are not personalized. In the EU, UK and Switzerland you are asked for consent through Google's consent form. Paid plans have no ads. Google's policy: policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
Who else handles your data
- Our hosting provider, which runs the server and database.
- Apple and Google, who take payment for paid plans, and RevenueCat, which tells our server what you bought (it sees your account id and the purchase, not your cubby).
- Our email provider, which sends password reset codes.
- Google AdMob on the free plan, as above.
We don't sell or rent personal data, and we don't share it for others' marketing. We may disclose data if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Account data stays until you delete your account. Anonymous usage data is kept for up to 24 months. Server backups are overwritten within 30 days, so deleted data is gone from backups after that.
Your choices
- Delete your account: in the app, My Kitchen > My data > Delete my account. Your login, member record, cubby, planner, lists, reviews, picks and household place are removed right away, and anonymous usage data from that phone too. Feedback you sent is kept without your name or email. You can also ask us at support@cubbyful.com.
- Download your data: My Kitchen > My data > Download a backup.
- Correct it: Membership > Update your details.
- Usage data: turn it off or delete what you've shared in My Kitchen.
- Ads tracking: iPhone Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking; Android Settings > Privacy > Ads.
Depending on where you live (for example California or the EU) you may have more rights, such as knowing what we hold about you or objecting to some uses. Write to support@cubbyful.com and we will answer within 30 days.
Children
Cubbyful is for adults planning meals. It isn't meant for children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has an account, tell us and we will delete it.
Security
Passwords are stored with a one-way hash, connections use HTTPS, and sign-in sessions expire after 30 days. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach that affects you, we will tell you.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app before it applies. Questions: support@cubbyful.com.
